Skyla is our interpretation of John Brooks' Somes Sound 12-1/2 design, which was derived from the well-known Herreshoff 12-1/2 foot Buzzards Bay Boy's Boat and Joel White's Haven 12-1/2. She is of glued-lap marine plywood construction which makes her stiff and relatively light, while her traditional trim and joinery give her the appearance of a classic daysailer. Her owner, who sailed a Herreshoff 12-1/2 as a young man, reports that her performance is exceptional and that she draws smiles and compliments wherever she goes.
